This year the Guia de Vins de Catalunya 2021 presents the blind tasting of 1,349 wines from all corners of Catalonia, which the wineries contribute to the analysis and evaluation of the tasting team; who tastes them and gives them a score with a brief description and adding an exhaustive technical sheet that will help the reader to choose the best option to deepen their knowledge of Catalan wines.

It is the thirteenth edition since 2008 of a product that, from the historical analysis of the vineyard environment and its development since its appearance in Catalonia, has contributed to generating a debate around the changes that have made a Catalan vineyard from 1965 to 2008 new and very denatured. Valuing the use of the concept "appellation of origin" that other places use, the authors have unraveled every year the deficiencies of a commercial discourse that has no depth and that for many years has been in charge of justifying any change in the vineyard, always in detriment to Catalan viticultural history.

Authors:
Silvia Naranjo is an expert Catalan wine expert, and also a great communicator of trends and news. Her career leading the Special Vinos La Vanguardia and later as co-author of the Catalunya Wine Guide from the first edition, has always pursued the reconnection of Catalan wines with the territory that has always generated them, through the historical varieties of the Catalan space .

Jordi Alcover, is the most introspective part of La Guia de Vins de Catalunya. From the second edition he focused on the investigation of the historical and technical roots of the defects common to many wines of French varieties that both were found in the first editions, always by detecting structural and economic problems that prevented - and still prevent - obtaining a quality grape in this type of black grape vines; poor adaptation to the climate and overexploitation of plants due to the permanent climate of low prices per kilo of grapes.

Sergi Sevé, has joined the team from the back, since he was always around the tastings and the logistics of La Guia. Co-owner of a store and wine distributor in Garraf, he provides the La Guia tasting team with a commercial vision of each wine, always without leaving the more objective parameters set by La Guia as scoring criteria for the wines presented in the blind tasting.

Thirteen years and twenty thousand wines later, these are the three most expert professionals in Catalan wine in the sector, the only ones with sufficient convening capacity to gather this amount of wines each year, and with enough perspective to summarize this career in a series of scores and opinions that the sector expects and takes into account.
