The violence used by Spanish 'security' forces around Catalonia to prevent a democratic vote attracted world attention. But perhaps even more the dignified, civic and courageous response of the people in the face of batons, guns and violence. Now that the facts that we have all seen on television, on social networks or live are relativized or questioned, it is necessary to take inventory and explain some in some detail. In Barcelona, Sabadell, Girona, Sant Carles de la Ràpita, Dosrius, Sant Joan de Vilatorrada and many other places there were dramatic, tragicomic or intensely happy episodes. The book that Liz Castro has written is a complaint, but also a tribute to all the volunteers and voters involved in an unforgettable day in a country underway.
